I was looking for something to do whilst I was alone in San Diego. This is not as bad as it first sounds BTW as I had come over the San Diego to spend 6 days aboard a Live-aboard shark dive boat and we were not due to board until around 24 hours after I landed in the US, hence I had some time to kill. This was indeed a great way to spend a few hours. Indeed I reckon if you really wanted you could easily spend a full day here at the USS Midway Museum. I booked my ticket electronically through TA and it was very easy to do, saved any waiting 'in line' as the Americans call it (I prefer to queue) it was placed into my iphone wallet within seconds and I was good to go. The museum didnt open until 10am, which was a little frustrating as due to the UK time difference I had been awake for many hours. I wont go into detail about every thing there is to see. it will take far too long but suffice to say there was plenty for everyone. Im guessing that the target audience is aimed at military enthusiasts, ex servicemen and those that love planes, boats, choppers etc I was really pleased to note the majority of staff dotted about the museum are actually ex servicemen, some who actually saw a lot of live action up[on the Midway itself. I also really liked the way the young american visitors actually thanked these people for their service. Its a sad thing to admit but back in the UK this sort of thing is certainly not embraced and speaking of ones patriotism alone is often frowned upon these days, very sad indeed. I would caveat the visit to the Midway in that if you want to get to all corners of the ship you do need to be fairly ambulant. There are some very steep / tight stair climbs and some quite claustrophobic corridors etc, however Id guess nothing that the average person could cope with. Again I actually loved the fact that you could still get into some areas, some aircraft etc that back home the health & safety police would never allow. There is also a great audio system all included within the price that allows you to go up to and exhibit / room etc and press the relevant number and get all sorts of interesting facts and information. On top of this is the fact that you can actually chat directly to some of the volunteer staff who were there when they got rd of Saddam Hussein! There were great exhibits you could climb all over including having a selfie like Tom Cruise in Top Gun. I would highly recommend this place
