What an adventure. Always wanted to see the manatees up close as I have just seen them in canals. Such gentle creatures. Our Captain Libby was great. Was so personal to each one of us and very informative. You will not be disappointed.

This past weekend my family had the unique opportunity to go out on a boat trip to swim with the manatees, originating from the Plantation on Crystal River, and it was a fantastic experience. Steve was our boat driver and Lance, a veteran diver, got into the water with us to see the manatees and was an enormous help with my 5-year-old son, encouraging him the entire time to stay in the water, despite the fact it was cold for him even with a wet suit on and made sure he enjoyed the entire experience. Lance also took some really good video and photos of the experience with his go pro that we opted to buy when our visit came to a conclusion. We were hoping to see a few more manatees, but due to the above average temperatures for January 18th, there weren't as many around as there can be in the middle of January. We spent a considerable of amount of time observing a mother and her baby manatee resting next to her on the bottom of the area where we were swimming, roughly 8 feet down, and that was very cool. Steve and Lance were both knowledgeable (they knew the best spots to go see the manatees), friendly, easy to talk to, and were a big reason the outing was as fun as it was. I would recommend this experience and hope to go back at some point, though the window to see them is limited to a very specific time of year. If you get a chance to request a crew, I'd highly recommend going with Steve and Lance. The other thing is that everyone else on the staff was also equally nice and helpful that morning.

We went to Crystal River solely to swim with manatees. Just to be sure, we booked two tours - one in Homosassa because I heard it's less crowded and one the next day with Plantation since we were staying at the hotel. The Homosassa one was just okay, but we only saw about 10 manatees and we had to go hunt for them in low visibility. The next day we were with Dustin and Capt. Dallas. At first I was disappointed to learn we weren't going to Three Sisters Spring because the visiblity there is incredible. They instead took us to an area where they said the manatees were more playful. It did not disappoint. Manatees were all over and interactive. We stayed around Dustin since he knew where to go and had the camera and he took great photos (but the photos!). There were 8 of us total in our party and many more boats at the site, but manatees were everywhere. They use 5 mil wet suits and claim they are the only ones -everyone else uses 3 mil. 5 mil is buoyant enough where you won't need a noodle and my back felt better than it did the day before with a noodle. I'd recommend the 7am tour. We had a cold front that took the temperature down to lower 30s, which brings more manatees into the area. I call this a once-in-a-lifetime trip, but I'd love to do it again someday and will be sure to book with these guys.
