The charming town of Sonoma, just an hour north of San Francisco, is a delightful stop on the way to Napa Valley. Tree lined streets, an old tyme theatre, and a central courthouse give the feeling of life in the early 1900's. There is the usual bustle of hurried lives but a lovely rose garden to remind you to take the time to enjoy life. On this early Fall afternoon, many were resting under the trees with a good book or a good friend.
We decided to do the Sonoma Segway tour of local wineries and a cheese factory. Our guide was excellent in getting us comfortable on our unique means of transport. We were all quickly in line like baby ducks following Dad to see the historic homes on bike trails that follow the old railroad tracks. Then, a little more rural trip took us to Buena Vista winery, the longest operating "vino" establishment in the valley. We capped our tour with a tasty visit to Vella Cheese factory where we had a lesson in cheese making and some delicious samples.
Wishing to prolong our stay, we wandered the shops around the town square and eventually drove on with a trunk full of treasures.
