I don't review tours unless I feel 100% comfortable using the words "unique" and "exceptional". Those two words perfectly describe this tour AND its amazing guide Phil. All I can say is that if you want to experience and understand Amish Country and its people in the 'real-deal/boots on the ground' way and don't take this tour? It would kinda be like visiting Liberty Island and not seeing the Statue of Liberty. Yeah..it's that special and well worth the bit extra it costs over competing tours.
Phil is a unique creature...almost unicorn-like...in that community. He was raised..as a kid..in both Amish AND Mennonite family environments, but his adult life (both in business and social circles) has extended well outside of those communities. Yet he clearly remains a trusted and valued presence within his old tribal circles. As a result, my wife and I got to learn about and experience life in and around Lancaster from both the Amish and non-Amish points of perspective. I won't divulge spoilers, but I can tell you that the Amish people we met on the tour as a result of Phil's long-term relationships were truly memorable & extraordinary people.
Phil was relaxed, articulate, fun, candid, genuine, and caring. My wife and I have visited Lancaster several times over the 32 years we've been together. But we've never fully absorbed both the town and the Amish community before taking LoKal's 'Truly Authentic Amish Experience' this past week. I would give this SIX stars if I could!
