Dario was our (excellent) guide for our tour of St. Louis Cemetery #1. The tour begins near Jackson Square, visits the St. Louis Cemetery #1, then ends near the Marie Laveau Voodoo Museum. Dario led us effortlessly through the crowds near the square, providing interesting history about New Orleans and voodoo, helping to separate myth and legend from what is known, inferred, and guessed. He is a very entertaining storyteller, bringing both pathos and humor to the narrative. The tour covered the history of enslaved peoples, voodoo, jazz, superstition, and politics (and how they all interrelate). The cemetery itself was beautiful, but be warned it becomes quite hot amongst the stone and plaster and white-washed tombs.
