Very disappointing the bus was divided into 2 groups English speaking and spAnish speaking, we were in the English speaking group. The Spanish speaking host talked non stop explaining everything our host was asleep as we drive past a lot of monuments not knowing what they were. Not very professional
This tour was a bit of a slog. We spent 4 hours travelling either way. There was a break after 2 hours, so that wasn't too bad and there was a toilet onboard if needed. The guide was pleasant enough, but on a personal note he did alienate me a bit with some comments he made, which I won't mention here. Overall the guide was amiable enough and provided a decent level of information. The sites were worth the drive. Whether I would have done the trip considering the comfort of the coach is another matter. I appreciate I was warned about the length of travel prior to booking, but even so, the transport shouldn't be so rustic.
After being there, I don't think Washington needs much time, but there were times that I did feel rushed. eg I would have liked to be able to spend more time at the Smithsonian - I don't feel like I even saw a fraction of what was there.
That being said, there were definitely some sights/moments that I will never forget. Being in the park by the Lincoln Memorial was overwhelming inspiring and emotional - standing where MLK Jnr stood and looking out our the pool imaging all those people packed in there to hear those inspiring words...goosebumps.... And the tour guide was friendly and informative.
My only recommendation is that you pack breakfast/snacks/lunch for the bus as this is where you spend most time, and taking these things with you will mean you can eat on the bus and use your time off it in a more touristy fashion (instead of standing in food lines).
