  • Infants are required to sit on an adult’s lap
  • Suitable for all physical fitness levels
  • Check-in is 15 minutes prior to start time.
  • If the guest needs a wheelchair lift equipped bus, then special arrangements need to be made with the supplier. This must be arranged 48 hours prior to tour date. Contact details will be on your voucher.
  • Guests visiting Whitney using a wheelchair will have access to the gift shop, restrooms, and museum. The plantation grounds are accessible; however, there are uneven gravel paths. The main house tour is not accessible to guest traveling in wheelchairs and is not required to be modified as it is a historic home; however, the first floor is accessible. Guests would be able to view the slave quarters, but would not have access to enter.

It was a very eye-opening and important experience to have in respect to U.S. history. Additionally the plantation itself was very interesting to walk around at our own pace, and would catch other interesting stories from other tour guides that were there.

I very much enjoyed the Whitney Plantation however I can only give the tour 2 stars because the tour operator was problematic. The bus driver was unfriendly and almost rude as she was taking our names instead of scanning our tickets to get on the bus which was confusing to multiple people and seemed to irritate her. On the way to the plantation she drove fast in the passing lane and had to stop on breaks quickly when a truck pulled in front of her because she had been traveling so fast. After leaving the plantation she spent almost the entire ride on a phone call with what sounded like another driver or someone at their office complaining about how long the drive was going to take her and her frustration at having to circle back to pick up people who were late. She was unprofessional and I would not choose to go on another tour with this vendor.

I couldn’t do this review without first mentioning our driver, Alton, who not only got us there safely, but gave us a history of the surrounding area and pointing out other plantations along the way (and their history). The self guided tour was great. By the time the tour was over, I had so many feelings which I tried to put into words, none of which truly described the emotions I felt. Gutted, ashamed, sadness and more. Every American should visit here. It will change you.
