Loved this museum of cinema, there are lots exhibits showing the various aspects of film making. Really interesting to see some of the props and costumes used in movies. The godfather exhibit was amazing, as a big fan of this movie it was great to see would definitely recommend.

The presentation of the history of movie-making and Hollywood studios was very interesting, and included numerous media that made the information very easy to assimilate. Short films, 3-D scaled replica of Hollywood area, and original photos all contributed to a wonderful educational experience. The only thing I would add is additional presentations that take it from the 1930's to present day. Aside from one room that had very short clips of movies including recent ones, nearly all of the information stopped short of presenting anything of recent decades in Hollywood. Despite this caveat, I strongly recommend a visit to this museum --- it is well worth your time for a few hours. There is also an excellent restaurant on-site including a well-stocked bar, which is very convenient since the area doesn't offer many options within walking distance.

I reviewed this museum 3 years ago soon after they opened. At that time I gave it a 3 dot rating. We returned again to see the Godfather exhibit and whether they had improved some of the things I had disliked. The museum experience was indeed better this visit. PROS: Because it’s not brand new any longer, it was far less crowded, which was a relief. The Godfather exhibit was excellent and worth the trip. The Casablanca exhibit also was very interesting. Much of floor 2 was very good as before: the focus on various aspects of film - sound, editing, casting, etc. Seeing audition tapes and the selection process for actors is always fascinating. The exhibits on hair and makeup on floor 3 were engaging. The Toy Story zoetrope on the 4th floor remains addictive. And they have greatly improved the map! It is now clear and concise - a useful document. CONS: The animation section on the 3rd floor was disappointing. It did not educate at all about the animation process or evolution. Maybe a thorough homage to animation could replace the color in motion when it’s over.
