Use your general admission ticket for entry to the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. Here, Ice Age fossils are being excavated right in the middle of L.A. Enjoy this truly unique attraction by experiencing all that it has to offer. Marvel at its outdoor Lake Pit, oozing with bubbling tar; travel back in time among the prehistoric plants of its Pleistocene Garden; and explore its active dig sites, where it seems excavators uncover something new daily. The museum itself features its own wealth of offerings. Scope out the fossils of prehistoric mammoths, saber-toothed cats, wolves, and ground sloths, or take an opportunity to watch paleontologists working in the Fossil Lab on their most recent finds. For a wonderful overview, reserve a spot on the Excavator Tour, free with admission. This guided tour delves into the history of the tar pits and explains just how so many massive creatures ended up stuck here. The 3D movie gave a good overview what led to the discoveries that were made in the area. Pre-sale of the tickets helped us skip the lines to get in.

So had been wanting to come here for many years and finally made it. Watching the recent tv series "La Brea" inspired me even more to say, I have to do this and see La Brea, which only the opening show in the series I believe actually filmed some here. In any case, not plugging the show, but this is a super cool place to see. I love the design of the main building first off, it's a really cool design with a plant area in the middle which you can walk above and gaze into as well. And the structure makes it so you can walk around the display areas really easily. There is even a window to look in on the active scientists doing their work and research, talk about working in a petrie dish lol, but I suppose they get used to it. There is also a short 3D film you can pay 6 dollars extra for and a anime sort of puppet show, that I didn't make but sounded super cool. Went on a tour which is included and boy would I recommend this. They take you around the park and really in depth explain what is actively going on here and apparently through out the LA area as far as oil and tar and so many bones and and fossils still being found and investigated. Fascinating to see how the oil is actively still seeping. up and where. They have so many containers and explain how it's moved to the location and from where so that they can as time allows and volunteers work to clean up the finds over time. Another cool thing is that the parking lot is one price and you can go to all the other museums in the area.

The vast collection of perfectly preserved bones of Pleistocene fauna was very impressive. There are still a vast number of fossils to be processed. In addition to the megafauna, there are many small creatures like mice and insects. Awesome!
