Alaska Railroad Anchorage to Seward One Way

Departing from downtown Anchorage, the Coastal Classic Train travels south along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives to Seward at 1115 am, allowing plenty of time to explore this charming port town – or opt to take a marine wildlife & glacier day cruise into the nearby Kenai Fjords.

Great way to travel to Seward. The scenery was breathtaking and the tour guide in our car did a great job of pointing out sights and wildlife as well as giving us a lot of history about the area. We were comfortable and were able to relax and enjoy.

Great way to travel to Seward. If it’s your first trip I’d recommend the gold service as the views are even better! This was a very memorable part of our trip!

We took the Alaska Railroad to Seward and took a motor coach back to Anchorage. I recommend doing the train for at least one leg of the journey. It takes extra time but is very relaxing and you will get views which are not available from the highway.
