I usually look for a tour like this when I go to a new city, it helps me to get oriented and to work out what I would like to see.
This tour was very poor.
Except for stop #1, the office in West Hollywood, the remaining 11 stops are unmarked - no sign, no identification. So it’s hard to know where to get on, and if you do get off it’s hard to find where you can get back on. We ended up walking back to the stop where we got off, which is not the point of a hop off hop on tour.
The buses only go every 45 minutes, if you don’t time it right, there’s a lot a waiting.
The back half of the upper deck has shade, which was great.
The commentary - it’s recorded, which is a problem. Often the bus hadn’t arrived at the point of interest so we couldn’t see what they were describing. At other times we had already passed it.
The most annoying thing was that the commentary never said “on the left”, or “on the right”.
It just said “the white building with orange tiles……..”, so everyone on the bus is looking left, right, forward, back, trying to see what was being described. I missed a lot of things.
Here’s another big problem - the company gives you a brochure with a route map which is actually a rectangle on a white background showing 12 stops - with no reference map. So you never actually know quite where you are in LA, and in my opinion that defeats the purpose of this type of tour.
I did like riding around on the bus, and it’s an easy way to see things, but this tour was very disappointing.
There were other tour buses driving around, not sure if they may be better options?
