Be prepared to spend a day doing this if you want to cross it off your list. There are two routes. We did uptown/blue first as it runs less frequently and could soon see why. There isn’t a great deal to see on it. The downtown/red route has far more of the famous landmarks and so has far longer queues. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes to get on one of the buses for this route. Even when we did, we ended up sitting separately as it was so full. The leaflet says this route takes about an hour. We was on it for a hour and only did a third of it as spend so long stuck in traffic. We ended up getting off due to the heat and getting annoyed with the slowness of the journey. On both routes the free headphones were useless as the commentary didn’t work. This is despite the bus driver on the red route stopping and yelling at everyone to use their headphones. Bring back the live guides!

While we try our best to estimate the route duration, New York traffic can definitely play a big role in the duration of the tour. Depending on traffic trends, this may also cause some delay in departure s. We apologize for this and hope it did not cause too great of an inconvenience during your trip. Very disappointing from other Big Bus tours from the past. The narrative did not match what you were seeing. Also, s landmarks mentioned and shown were very limited. The drivers did not announce all of the stops. Busses weren’t timely either.

The requirement between a ticket and a voucher was very confusing. The ticket agents were not very knowledgeable or fluent in english. We finally figured out that we needed to take our ticket to the agent and get our voucher to show the driver. The traffic in Manhattan is crazy and made for a very long uneventful ride around the city, often simply doing a full circle around a city block - which took 20min. But the event that has motivated me to write this review in hopes that it helps others make their NYC choices, is that when we got ourselves back, with 1min to spare, to the last bus running at that particular stop, the bus driver shut the doors as we banged on the door to let us in, and he just waved us off and took off. The agent who was there just looked at us, shrugged his shoulders and took off. I would not recommend this tour!
