We booked the bus tour for 2 adults and our teenaged daughter. We waited at the Empire State Building at the earliest pick up time and the first 2 buses that came by were already full. We got on the third bus but had to sit inside because there was no room on top. The pre-taped tour was so garbled for the majority of the ride that you could not hear it (this was bus ride not specific to headphones or certain plug- ins)We exited the bus at Battery Park and again waited in long lines to get back onto the bus. The lines were so long later in the afternoon that we were unable to get back on. It should be noted that our visit was during a holiday weekend so perhaps this isn’t typical, but it was a lot of money to pay for what was essentially a short bus ride.

None of the headsets worked so you could not hear the tour. Even if the audio was on the app it would help!

Hi Paulc4771, we appreciate your honest review. We set a high standard for ourselves, so we are disappointed to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one. Our buses are checked daily before we send them out on a tour to ensure they are fit for service. We apologize if you had experien ced audio issues on the bus you boarded causing you to miss the commentary. Be prepared to spend a day doing this if you want to cross it off your list. There are two routes. We did uptown/blue first as it runs less frequently and could soon see why. There isn’t a great deal to see on it. The downtown/red route has far more of the famous landmarks and so has far longer queues. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes to get on one of the buses for this route. Even when we did, we ended up sitting separately as it was so full. The leaflet says this route takes about an hour. We was on it for a hour and only did a third of it as spend so long stuck in traffic. We ended up getting off due to the heat and getting annoyed with the slowness of the journey. On both routes the free headphones were useless as the commentary didn’t work. This is despite the bus driver on the red route stopping and yelling at everyone to use their headphones. Bring back the live guides!

While we try our best to estimate the route duration, New York traffic can definitely play a big role in the duration of the tour.
