Seeing Canyonlands from the visitors center at the top doesn’t do it justice. The White Rim Trail runs much of the length of the canyon about half way up, giving you views both up and down of the diverse geological formations (including musselman arch), many side canyons, Colorado River and big horn sheep. The only way to do the trail is by multi day or supported mountain bike or four wheel drive. Navtec offers both half and full day truck tours. It’s not cheap but worth it. The vehicles are comfortable and safe and the drivers professional, experienced and knowledgeable about history, geology, archaeology (there’s petroglyphs) and paleontology (dinosaur bones). Kelly was our driver and you can tell he loved the drive as much as us, even though he does it nearly everyday. I would recommend the full day as it offers you far more to see, and the ability to stop whenever you want for as long as you want to explore, take pics, etc. Whatever you do, use Navtec. They are the most professional outfit ever.
