First, tour guide Macy, a Charleston native, was extremely knowledgeable about the city's early history and a great story-teller! She brought the people and times to life. Excellent. My 20-something daughter and I took the tour, did not know what to expect, and we both enjoyed it. During the 90-minute tour we stopped at approx 6 locations in downtown Charleston, including 3 cemeteries. We did not walk through the cemeteries, which I only mention b/c some may want that, but we didn't expect to see ghosts! Lol. At each stop Macy told a real-life story of death and / or depravity of Charleston's early citizenry, both the esteemed and the depraved. My favorite part was Macy herself, her factual storytelling of historical detail that brought the people to life, and the restful illustrations Macy showed from her iPad of citizens in repose! It is an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend an evening downtown and learn about the city's history through a different lens - the lens of death and depravity!!
