I only had a couple hours for sightseeing while in Manhattan on a business trip. It was my first trip to NYC and I shared with a resident that the number one attraction I wanted to see was the Statue of Liberty. She suggested a Liberty Cruise. It was a fantastic tour! I was able to see the Statue of Liberty and so many landmarks along the way. The tour guide, Chris, was entertaining and shared interesting facts throughout the one hour cruise, both current and historical. On my next visit, I will start with a Liberty Cruise again!

Having visited NYC many times, I have gone out to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island with members of my family. This time, however, our visit was limited to only two days so I knew we would not have time to actually go out to the Statue. Instead, I booked this one-hour cruise so that my young granddaughter would have, at least, seen it. We took a cab from Times Square (about $10) and arrived slightly early. I had downloaded our tickets when I purchased the cruise on the company's website; however, you have to present them at the window to receive a boarding pass. The cruise was great! It left on time, the narration was perfect (not too much but enough to be informative even to those who have visited NYC previously), and the length of the cruise was exactly what we needed. Since the day was slightly cool and rainy, the fact that the ship is heated and has great viewing from inside was definitely appreciated. I would highly recommend this cruise to those with smaller children or those who just want to see the Statue but do not have time to actually go out and visit it. If you want good seats on the top, go a little early to get in line although viewing is great from most seats.

This was a scam from the very beginning, and shame on NYC to letting these people stand in front of the county run facility and take advantage of people going in to the S of L building itself. We wanted to go see the Statue of liberty, and were told to go to Battery Park for the free shuttle, by the locals. When we got to the state run building, Circle Line Cruises intercepted us entering the government building. They were wearing red jackets that said “Liberty Cruises.” They even flashed an “official” NYC badge to make us feel more comfortable. They asked if we had tickets to go see the statue and we said no. So they pulled us off to the side and had us purchase tickets for an inflated price (didn’t know that at the time). They told us that the pier is actually located at pier 16 and that we would have to get our official ticket there. We were told that we would have a one hour pass to see the Statue of Liberty. We thought it was fishy that we had to change piers, but we already bought the tickets and followed the crowd. When we got to pier 16, the attendant told us that we (and everyone else at the time) bought a voucher for a sold out tour! If we wanted to go to the S of L we would have to purchase an upgrade. I was furious. I mentioned to the people behind me that they “took us for a ride and sold us vouchers, not tickets, for a sold out tour!” The attendant said that she would upgrade us for free for an “all day pass” to keep us happy. When we got to the NYC Water Taxi (after leaving the dock) the announcer told us that everyone that bought a “voucher” is to stay on the boat and to not leave until the tour is over, because what we were sold, wasn’t true. His words exactly. The attendant tore off the barcode at the bottom of the ticket after selling it to us. The barcode would have allowed us to have the “all day” portion of the tour and come and go as we pleased. Either way, it ended up being a one hour water trip through the bay. We were lied to by Circle Line that sold us the voucher. We were lied to by the lady at the ticket booth for the redemption of the voucher. We were tricked by the NYC Water Taxi Service after we left the dock. Shame on Circle Line Cruises and shame on NYC for allowing people to act this way. They completely took advantage of tourists. The foreigners behind us said “great… welcome to New York City.” Is this what you want people to view NYC as? SCAM!!
