Біолюмінесцентний тур Clear Kayak

Огляд
Why clear bottom kayaks? Our continued commitment to maintaining safety within our immersive experiences has led us to these technologically advanced kayaks, a finely crafted and mesmerizing new model of kayak. The Innovex material is not glass, but a highly durable plastic composite, like the overhead cock pits of fighter jets. The clear-bottom kayak does not simply lay a window panel under you, but rather a fully-formed inlay of Innovex allows water (and so bioluminescence) to rise around you, preserving the full experience without compromising paddler safety.

The internet did not quite prepare me for the tour so I thought I would highlight a few key points you should know for your experience. 1) They say don’t forget your bug spray, what they should say is don’t forget your full body armor to brace yourself for the Florida swamp. Whatever NASA mosquitoes live at this body of water are immune to all bug sprays. I seriously had less bumps on my skin when I had chicken pox as a child than I do now and I sprayed my whole body three times with two different types of bug spray. If I would have known I’d be this miserably itchy I wouldn’t have gone. 2) Literally this tour exists for the bio and if there is none then you quite literally float for an hour listening to the guide try (and low key kinda fail) to come up with interesting things to say. When is the bio best? When it’s dark and the water is warm and probably the week before or after you book this tour. We got to see it for two seconds and it was cool. The rest of the tour was…well beyond boring. We literally stayed in one spot for an hour…the only thing that made this worse was the guides constant reminders of how it sucked that night…like thank you for telling me what I could have seen and that now I have essentially wasted my money and time driving two hours for this. 3) You will be tandem. We payed to each be in our own kayak, this was not the case. They paired us and only one person got a solo kayak. However as a positive, the clear kayak is the way to go! The best view I got of the bio was under the clear kayak. 4) There is not a provided space for your stuff on the boat, so come prepared for that. Overall it was cool to do. I wish we paddled more than we parked. Was seeing the bio for five seconds worth bracing the Florida swamp? Honestly, no. I’m happy to have contributed to eco tourism but I wish this tour had a plan B for what else to see. Don’t go on a full moon. I thought we would try to find places to see it better, we didn’t. In mid July the bio will not be bright enough to see. Be prepared for bugs. Take your iron supplements. I’m not kidding, the mosquitoes outnumber the dinoflagellates. Set yourself up for successes and lower your expectations.

We went and did the bioluminescence kayak tour at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Specifically we kayaked a place called Mosquito Lagoon in the Preserve. There are only 2 positive thing we can say about the experience. One is we got go kayaking together at night in yet another new place. Two is there was a beautiful moon out for a short while. See photo. We did not see any bioluminescence. Since it was night time we didn’t see any other wildlife either accept for one crane because we got too close to it. The moon was out for maybe only 25% of the trip. Then cloud cover came in for the other 75% which kept it nice and dark. Which is what you want because that’s when you can see the bioluminescence. Supposedly, because we never saw anything. The guided tour itself sucked because you had to stand around and wait forever for them to “teach” the group how to kayak. As if there were no advanced kayakers on the trip. Then wait longer to get issued all the crappy gear. All this while swarms of mosquitoes tried to eat you. Inset roll eyes here. Yeah, 16 tandems kayaks , 32 people, plus 3 guides all went out together. The Gen Z tour guide who spoke English as a first language, started every sentence which a conjunction. “But” this or that. “And” this or that. “Or” this or that. After 10 minutes I want to beat him with an English teacher! LOL On the water we kept having to wait for amateur paddlers to catch up. Oh and those cool looking clear kayaks really sucked! The keel is the most important thing for a kayak. The clear kayaks we were in had crappy keels. So the vessels were slow and felt as if they were going to capsize at any moment. Fortunately, we brought our own carbon fiber paddles, quality life jackets, and gloves or we would have had to use their cheap over used equipment. After paddling all over and seeing nothing for 2 hours we kayaked back to the place where we started. Then we waited longer in the water for slow people to catch up and then even longer for the guides to give you their long spiel. This speech was laden with conjunctions and was completely incoherent as if Trump & Biden collaborated on it together. Then they finally let you beach your kayaks and get out of the water. The exit process was a complete cluster f@&$ of people trying to GTFO there before the swarms of mosquitoes picked you up and carried you off to their evil blood sucking lair. So in a nutshell don’t to this tour!

The clear kayak bioluminescence tour was the highlight of our vacation! Guides Matthew, Hailey, and Cadence were knowledgable and engaging— we are already planning our next trip!
