Considering there is no charge for the experience, this is a great way to spend an hour or so in South Kona. First you must book a tour on their website. Slots are available on the hour, Monday-Friday. The Kona farm is small, so it's not so much a tour as a presentation. The guide will take you to a raised platform with a view of the coffee trees on one side and the Kona coast on the other. The presentation includes the anatomony of a coffee bean/cherry and the process of drying and roasting the beans into coffee product. It's fascinating information.
There is a small shop on-site in which you can sample the medium roast coffee. You will also taste two local teas and the Black Elixir spread during the presentation. You can request a tasting of any of the specialty coffees sold in the shop or online ($12 for a flight of three). Along with my coffee, I ended up purchasing a bag of Mamaki Tea, which is grown on-site and endemic to Hawaii. The elixir is delicious; I chose it in the straw packaging for easier travel.
Four of the six people in my party detest coffee, but all admitted it was a worthwhile trip. I coaxed my young daughter to the farm with the possiblity that she might see some of farm dogs. We did meet two of the employees' rescue dogs, and they did not disappoint.
