Floating through the heart of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve in Haines Alaska is a must see attraction and you won't want to miss the jaw dropping scenery, delightful guides and genuine Alaskan wildlife.

Watch eagles catching salmon and caring for young eagles in the numerous nests that line the riverbanks. Look for bears, moose, and a host of other wildlife that call the preserve home.

Relax or take pictures as your private guide navigates the narrow channels of the Preserve's glacial fed rivers.

As a Haines Alaska resident, I refer all my summer guests to Haines Rafting Company for an excursion rafting through the Bald Eagle Preserve as they float down the Chilkat River. Every one of my visiting friends and family have loved the entire experience and Andy Hedden is an amazing guide and owner. Never disappoints!

Having Andy take you down the river in his raft is as intimate as having your own gear for your own group, only he does all the tricky stuff, plus takes care of the equipment, snack picnic, and the shuttle. We had a wonderful outing--bright clouds, perfect for viewing around 4 dozen eagles and two lovely young brown bears (REALLY lucky to see those.) I was a park ranger for twenty years and Andy had just that perfect naturalist demeanor, sharing information gleaned from experience and training from experts, while still exhibiting passion for the experience. It was great! Go with Haines Rafting, a wonderful local family business.

Andy and his assistant (Dad) picked us up from our cabin and transported us up the river for a rafting excursion. Andy was extremely knowledgeable about the terrain and history of the river. He gave us interesting facts about Alaska and was willing to joke and have fun with us as a group. We saw a glimpse of a bear and over 20 eagles! It was a great trip, Haines rafting is a professional good nature-ed locally owned company. If you are looking for quality and not rafting with the cruise masses, we highly recommend Haines. Thanks Andy- the Cali girls!
