Understanding the dynamics around this neighborhood, which led to so much creative incubation in such a concentrated area, was fascinating. Our guide, Bobby Pinn, was excellent and has all the insider bona fides to conduct such a tour.

Bobby Pinn’s over all knowledge of the punk rock era, included The Ramones primarily but definitely went into neighborhood favorites including Lou Reed, Joe Strummer, Blondie, Madonna, Led Zeppelin, Bill Graham, and The Rolling Stones… etc. We wanted a bit more emphasis on other than the Ramones full-blown heavy handed tour. We enjoyed the Rock Junket rendition of the fascinating story behind Bill Graham’s Fillmore East over all mass appeal back in the late 60s. Bobby Pinn subjected us to quite a dive into The Ramones. However this walking tour could benefit from a more balanced approach that includes personalities other than punk rock artists and personal dives into the many musicians who lived in the Lower East Side. We wanted more behind the scenes into the musical personas much like Bill Graham’s story of rags to riches tell-tales and how he made it from Germany to New York and how he became somebody in the NY of the 70s.
