This French Quarter walking tour is conducted by city licensed guides and emphasize the history, architecture, and folklore of this fascinating city. Tour and store proceeds benefit Friends of the Cabildo, a non-profit volunteer group to provide support for the Louisiana State Museum. Purchasing a walking tour ticket also gets you admission to the 1850 House Museum, above the store, that shows what life was like in a typical Pontalba Apartment in the 1850s. Restroom is provided for walking tour guests as well.

Tours go out rain or shine.

I went on a tour of the Quarter done by the Friends of the Cabildo. I assumed this would be a great history tour. The guild urged everyone to get water and use the rest room before we left but then she left without 4 of the tour takers. We caught up with her in Jackson square where the tour went through huge crowds and noisy street performers. The first 30 minutes were about the floods from Hurricane Katrina. I found this odd because the French Quarter did NOT flood. We went behind Cafe Dumond then crossed Decauter St. The tour guide was at the Joan of Arc statue telling the story while half the the group were playing chicken to cross the street to catch up. I considered the the fee for this tour a "donation". I learned more about the Quarter from the carriage ride then this tour. The Quarter is a grat place to walk around.

This tour is given by the "Friends of the Cabildo". Our guide was very knowledgable and interesting. The tour was a little over 2 hours long. It started in Jackson Square and ended in Jackson Square. We learned many interesting facts about historic people and buildings in the French Quarter. This tour also included a walk through of the 1850 house which was a self guided tour.

We had ron for our guide today and the tour was way more than I was expecting. For $15 we got a great 2hr walking tour, plus entry to the 1850 house museum, plus bathroom facilities. This tour is not touristy like the vampire and ghost and voodoo tours. This is history in new orleans! And how it came to be. The guide will even tell you about his personal experience with hurricane katrina. We have done tours in other places, and this is one of the best! I must add that if you are from la or no, you will especially enjoy it; it is surprising how you can grow up here and yet not know the history! This tour is highly recommended if u r visiting new orleans!! You will not regret it!
