I was expecting a lot, considering all the reviews I read and even from some of the people I met in Maui who've taken this tour. This was the biggest, newest, fastest, most modern boat so I was expecting to be blown away. Well, bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. Maybe the boat was too big because I didn't really feel welcomed from the crew. I've been on other boat tours on Maui, Kauai, the Big Island and as far away as Vietnam and Thailand and this was the first time I felt underwhelmed. The crew was quick and efficient and they ensured our safety, but they really didn't walk around trying to get to know everyone or give them suggestions on where to eat or where to visit back on the island. When I was in Kauai, the crew was giving me all sorts of suggestions on where to go and what to see and what to eat when they found out it was my first time on Kauai. They made you feel like you were family, which is what I was expecting when I visit Hawaii. But this time was OK. The boat was nice and was definitely spacious, but maybe too big to the point where you couldn't get to know the other guests and crew because there was so many people on board. The boat ride was smooth, so if you are prone to getting sea sick, you won't have much problem here.
LOVE the brand new boat/catamaran!
Crew was fun, helpful, easy-going.
Breakfast was basic but tasty lunch was real good I had the pulled pork sandwich.
Didn't like to have to pay for a beer as I thought it should be part of the price, but for 2 I guess it's OK.
While in the water crew was helpful in guiding us to the best place to see the fish and the turtles.
I would highly recommend the Calypso for snorkeling at Molokini!
My wife and I have been to the islands a number of times, but this is the first time we took a snorkel boat from Maui. The boat and crew performed well but frankly I expected more from the snorkel sites we visited and the sea life that was on hand. It is always potluck regarding what you will see when you go snorkeling, but in retrospect I there were other activities on Maui that we would have provided better bang for the buck.
