My husband and I did the full-day tour of the Everglades and we completely agree with the other wonderful reviews. We left feeling like we had actually SEEN the everglades and Garl is very personable and was very knowledgeable about the area (so we learned quite a bit too). We are a young, active couple and so enjoyed the physical aspects of the trip (hiking through the water was more challenging than we thought - mostly with keeping our balance because the ground was soft beneath although Garl said that changes with the seasons.) It was also very windy so we were not able to make the full ocean kayak part; we had to turn around half way there. But Garl had warned us (and gave us the option of even trying, which we were all for doing) and we still saw quite a bit of wildlife in the short stretch. And he discussed other options when we turned around (as he did the whole day), so we really felt like we were collaborating on what we were seeing and doing. If you are not in good physical shape, then I imagine he would be accommodating to your abilities but you would need to make those clear. I think that "as is," the tour is definitely geared towards those that have a moderate level of fitness. (All the hiking is on flat land, but the water might add some challenge. And while our inland kayaking was very easy because of calm water, our ocean kayaking was tough due to high winds. But that is a chance you take in the winter, and as I mentioned we didn't mind and we kayak quite a bit anyway so were used to it). When we called and scheduled the trip we were given a full run down of what to expect (what we would be doing physically, clothing to wear, the general itinerary, the food situation, etc.) so we felt very prepared for the what the tour would be like. We were told by Garl to let him know when we'd like to stop and eat, and we did. We didn't get to see everything, but we certainly don't blame Garl for the weather or the fickleness of the wildlife (it's not a zoo - thank goodness - so nothing is a guarantee and Garl was upfront about this) and it was the best money we spent on our entire trip down to the Keys. Even if we had seen half the wildlife, it still would have been worth the money. We can't recommend the tour enough. the last reviewer's experience was completely opposite of ours so perhaps they didn't get enough info beforehand, misunderstood, or did not communicate their needs/wishes well with Garl. Oh, and we highly recommend not worrying too much about taking your own photos and buying Garl's at the end of the trip. For $25 we got a CD of almost 500 high def pictures of the day. It was nice not to have to worry about taking pictures, his camera was WAY better than ours, and he knew where/when to look because he knows the animals/area well so he didn't miss shots we would have. And we have lots of pictures of me and my husband together!
