Garl's tours let you see the Everglades through the eyes of someone who has spent years mucking around in its bogs. Expect to get muddy and sweaty and enjoy yourself thoroughly. I took the full day tour with my girlfriend, and it was half kayak and half slogging about by foot (with his van carrying you between trailheads).
On my tour. It wasn't more than a couple minutes into the tour before he made the first of many pull-offs from the road, to see if a big gator he knows was in her hole. It was. That was a bucket-list checkoff: Gator hissing at you because you're disturbing her.
He'll show you where the big crocs and gators are, getting you as close as good sense allows, and no closer. He'll also show you the most beautiful orchids and air plants and birds (hello, roseate spoonbill) and massive spider webs with equal enthusiasm.
Garl loves this place, and is proud to show it off. I'm happy to have gotten my introduction through him.
