Glacier Quest Cruise - Self-Drive from Anchorage, AK

Огляд
Drive the Seward Highway along the scenic Turnagain Arm to Whittier. The Glacier Quest Cruise takes you from the quaint seaside town of Whittier to glacier-filled Blackstone Bay, a dramatic deep-water fjord where two tidewater glaciers and several alpine glaciers await. Keep an eye out for sea otters, Steller sea lions, bears, mountain goats, whales, and more!

You will see several glaciers, including Tebenkof Glacier, named for Mikhail Demitrievich Tebenkof, an outstanding surveyor whose maps were the first charts of Alaska’s waters published in 1852. Northland Glacier rests majestically, clinging to the edge of the towering mountain. Blackstone and Beloit are tidewater glaciers that have carved a steep pathway to reach Prince William Sound’s saltwater. Cruise up close to these massive glaciers to watch for telltale signs of movement signaled by the distinct “pop” of glacier ice calving.

We had a total of 5 people in our group. Three of us went on the 26-glaciers cruise a year ago. This cruise was shorter and had less stops, but we still saw quite a few glaciers. If you don't want to commit to a 6 hour trip, you can definitely see a lot on this shorter cruise. The meal was the same on both cruises. Everything was going great. The water was pretty smooth. It was raining, but we were prepared for that (rain jackets & umbrellas for viewing on the outside deck). The only problem we had was when they moved the ship up close to a waterfall to get a better view. Once the ship stopped, it was rocking pretty bad and two members of our group got motion sick. The company does have a "no sea sickness guarantee" and did issue a refund for 2 passengers. We were happy they held up their guarantee. Other than the rocking at the end, we really enjoyed our cruise.

Thanks for cruising with us again. We always love having repeat customers on board and appreciate you bringing your friends on the cruise too. It is not very often that guests experience motion sickness on our cruises, but if that does occur, our accounting office responds promptly by issuing the refund as you noted. We hope your two guests were feeling better after the cruise. Safe travels.

Excellent experience! We were concerned because it was raining the day of our cruise but we shouldn't have worried. Sitting in front of the huge Blackstone Glacier was one of the coolest things I've ever done. We kept hearing the glacier crack and saw pieces of ice falling into the water. Pictures and videos cannot capture what it's like to experience that from a boat so close to the glacier. We stopped in front of another glacier which was also impressive and saw a few other glaciers from a distance. The boat did not seem crowded, and we had plenty of room to take pictures on the decks. The captain stopped so we could see otters playing in the water and in front of a bird rookery. The meal was very good and the service was excellent. I suggest booking early as tables are assigned based on booking dates. We booked in February for a June cruise and had a window table on the second deck which was great (less crowed than the lowest deck)! The second deck offers an outside deck as well as access to the open top deck. A once in a lifetime experience that I highly recommend!

We did not know that there was going to be food served on this cruise since our travel agent set it up. You had two options of chili or chowder. There was other food served on the boat, but we never bought anything. You can bring drinks and I even saw some people bringing small ice chests. We were seated on the lower deck next to a window. We were also very close to the door that went out onto the outside deck. I recommend trying to get close to that door because when you stop to see the glacier or wildlife you can get out on the deck quickly and get a better view. We saw 5 different glaciers, 3 very closely and were able to see and hear the glacier calving. There was a Park Ranger on the boat giving tour info and for the youngsters she was able to do the junior park ranger stuff with them. We saw lots of wildlife. I was really wanting to see some whales, but we did not. I was told the day before our cruise they saw an entire pod of Orcas. The boat was very smooth riding. I get sea sick, but I did not on this boat. I did not have to put a patch on or take any medications for the motion sickness.

Happy 30th Wedding Anniversary! Thank you for sharing your special day with us, viewing glaciers and wildlife in Prince William Sound. The Orcas cover quite a distance, and it's a bonus to see them. Even better is enjoying your cruise without feeling motion sick! We are happy to hear you enjoyed a very smooth ride. Enjoy the next 30 years. Safe Travels!
