James was a fantastic guide who made sure we had a great day despite the inclement weather. The city tour was interesting, with the highlight for us being the visit to the floatplane airport (masquerading as an ice rink at the time) and earthquake park. James' personal story about the earthquake was quite moving. The impromptu tours of Girdwood and the Aleksya Resort, made up for the low visibility at would-have-been photo stops along the way. Not being fans of animals in cages, we were initially hesitant about visiting the Conservation Centre, but the large enclosures, evident care for the animals and their individual histories put our minds at ease. Other than one very grumpy looking lynx, all animals seemed quite content with life. Seeing brown bears, wolves, coyotes, bison, porcupines and lynx for the first time was great. We had another tour booked with Welcome Anchorage the following day, which was cancelled due to an error with the booking system. Jen was amazing - at 9pm that night she booked (and paid for) us to do another tour with Escaping Anchorage instead. The customer service provided by both James and Jen at Welcome Anchorage was outstanding. If/when we come back to Alaska, Welcome Anchorage will be our first point of call.

Great experience. James was a funny and knowledgeable guide. It was great to hear about the history of the city as well as see all of the beauty.
