We were in San Diego for the weekend of July 15 & 16. We took the gondola ride around Coronado Island on 7/16/11. Our ride was at 6:00 pm and Enrico was our gondolier. He was an expert at handling the gondola and had a wonderful singing voice. He sang two songs for us. Since this trip was for my birthday, he sang Happy Birthday to me in Italian. I highly recommend this beautiful, romantic, peaceful gondola ride!

This is a very romantic activity, ideal for an anniversary, engagement, birthday, etc. The beautiful gondolas are the real deal, imported from Italy and are equipped with blankets. The gondolier wears a striped shirt and might sing a song. (You can also pay extra for a live musician). They also provide a plate of hors d'oeuvres or dessert. We went for the hors d'oeuvres which consisted of a plate of cold cuts, olives and tomato with mozzarella cheese. They didn't supply utensils, so you eat with your fingers. You can also bring your own wine/bubbly and they will chill it and supply glasses. We were out on the water for about 40 minutes and were taken around the Coronado Cays, where there are beautiful houses and boats to look at and also views toward the Coronado bridge and downtown San Diego. It's romantic and quite peaceful out on the water. I would have liked a little more atmosphere -- thought they were supposed to play recorded music on the gondola, but didn't and I thought our gondolier lacked a bit of personality flair. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because they claim you are on the water for about an hour, but it was 40 minutes, also for the lack of music on the boat (besides the live song) and no utensils for the food. Parking is validated in the Gondola Company office.

I am very sorry that your cruise time was shorter than it should have been and I can't think of a reason why your gondolier didn't have music playing for you. I have communicated to all the gondoliers the importance of both of these cruise aspects and our guests expectations. We look forward to seeing you out here again. Ciao, Saverio

The Gondola Cruise at Loew's resort in Coronado,Ca, is a wonderful experience. My husband and I joined a group of friends on the Wine Cruise and could not have had a better time. The staff is talented and friendly. We had a perfect evening with a beautiful moon, great wines and a lovely cruise through the canals of Coronado Cays. We totally recommend this as a romantic, yet fun night.
