Firstly, the food was excellent and the service was good, very happy with that. However, compared to other Hard Rock Cafe's that we have visited, memorabilia display was very limited. The one interesting piece was one of Eric Clapton's guitars, but that was completely hidden by a moveable screen (which remained even after I pointed out that it was blocking the exhibit).
Worst aspect was when the bill arrived. In the small print, at the bottom of the menu, there is mention of a 20% service charge regardless of numbers, not all of which goes to staff, however, the bill also included an automatic 8% tip on top of that, as well as a mandatory 4% SF employee charge (which is the only additional charge that appears to be legally mandatory). This adds a whopping 32% to the bill, before even adding on local tax, and left a really sour taste at the end of the meal. I would have been happy to add a voluntary tip for the service, but the size of the compulsory "gratuity" left me feeling pretty frustrated.
