If you are interested in learning more about NY's Hasidic community, this tour is a great way to start and/or continue. Frieda provides an information-dense couple of hours while taking an easy stroll through Williamsburg. She gives plenty of basic information (in those who are learning about the Hasidim from scratchc) and also answers all of your questions, gauging the level of knowledge of the tour participants along the way. Above all, she is respectful of the community and the tour participants, while also being willing to share her own life perspectives. Her respectful and non-judgmental approach was just right for helping us learn about the Hasidic community's background, traditions, and values.
This isn't Top of the Rock or a Broadway show - it's closer to a step beyond a tour at the Tenement Museum. It's not glitzy, but it's a genuine glimpse into the lives of a unique part of New York City that most tourists (and even some locals!) may not appreciate exists. But Frieda's tour was one of my favorite experiences yet in the city in the ten years I've lived here. And my friends who came along were equally appreciative of the experience.
