We arrived at JFK not an enjoyable experience with ridiculously long queues and very unpleasant border personnel and found the taxi dispatch deck at Terminal 7 no problem. We waited around 20 mins to be called and were directed to an ancient minibus. The driver was calling us in order and stacking luggage in the rear, which suggested some sort of organised drop off - nothing of the sort, so he had to keep rearranging the packed luggage at most stops. I would have hoped that the dispatcher would match the number of passengers to the bus we were allocated, however my wife was squeezed into the rear seat where clearly it wasn't designed for that number of seats. The transfer took a very long time , obviously not the driver's fault but he seemed not very familiar with the locations of the hotels and I'm sure it could have been achieved more quickly with a little planning. All in all a pretty unpleasant experience.
What a brilliant driver. Got us safely through traffic that would terrify the average Brit - and smiled at all my oos and aahs as I experienced New York for the first time!! He was helpful with our luggage and very polite...a super welcome to the city.
Had to wait more than 40 minutes for the transfer and driver was not particularly friendly or helpful. If I hadn't pre paid I would have just gone and got a taxi.
