On the one hour tour, you will explore the many notable sites surrounding this National Historic Landmark. It is considered consecrated ground, both for the blood shed on it and for the Minutemen who are interred here. Some highlights include: The iconic Henry H. Kitson Minuteman Statue The Revolutionary War Monument, a granite obelisk erected in 1799, where the remains of seven militiamen killed in the battle are buried. Captain John Parker monument inscribed with: “Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.” The Old Belfry, which sounded the alarm on April 19, 1775, calling the militia to the common. The Old Burying Ground where Captain John Parker, ministers John Hancock and Jonas Clarke, and an unknown British soldier are buried.

Laurie Pelletier was an excellent tour guide. She knew the accurate history of what actually happened and distinguished it from legend and even explained how the true history was determined to be accurate. I have toured alone on many sites and the difference is not even close. Having someone to tell all the details of the pre-battle influences, spies, info the colonists had, the strategies they used, and then the actual battle itself and all the people involved by name, and even post battle - talking about how the colonists militia and minutemen attacked the Brits on their way back to Boston relentlessly. You get none of that by wandering around reading a few plaques. It was great also to be able to ask questions (unlike a recorded audio tour) and clarify issues or get questions answered. The price was very reasonable so we could afford it. Laurie did great and this was our favorite part of our trip to Boston.

Tour was very well done, but operator insisted we try out new headphones for the tour. These were a disaster and keep running into interference when using. These are such a 90s way of doing thing. I highly recommend you allow people to download and app and use their own headphones/earbuds to follow along. I would gradually phase out the live guides. Let people do the tour at their own pace.

John was a terrific guide and a fountain of information. A beautiful fall day rounded out a perfect day.
