Had an awesome time at Adventures on the Gorge! We did the Lower New River with kids ranging 12 to 14 - a great experience had by all! Fidge was our guide and I can't say enough positive things about him. He was extremely knowledgeable, made us feel safe and secure, and explained everything we needed to do -- but he was also engaging, entertaining and fun! Also very informative about some of the history of the area. I would request him hands down the next time we go. It was also fun hanging out with the guides while watching the rafting video at Chetty's afterwards. We also did the Treetops Adventure and Paintball. We loved Danny who was our Paintball guide -- he was really into the game and played right along with us and our kids. Kids thought he was great too! We stayed in the Sportsmans Cabins which were nice for what they were, and we had everything we needed. As others have said the accomodations are a bit on the pricey side, but it is really the convenience that makes it worth it. Kids had freedom to bike about the resort on their own in between adventures, we could pop over to the pool, and easy walk to restaurants, so on-site was worth it to us. Also restaurants were quite good. We enjoyed wing night at Chetty's and sitting outdoors to eat at Smokeys. The only activity we did that I would not repeat is horseback riding. The horseback riding is offered by an outside vendor, but the staff at that venue was incredibly rude and disrespectful to us (and I am usually laid back and not easily offended by things but his behavior was over the top). AOTG should strongly consider finding a new horseback riding vendor or not offering horseback riding. But other than that, we had a great time! Would love to go back next year and do the part of the Gauley that is ok for younger teenagers, and the overnight Deluxe Gauley is definitely on bucket list for my husband and I without kids!!
