I was very skeptical about going to a museum dedicated to quilts. Seriously, quilts are nice, but a museum?! It was $12.00 per adult and I only anted up because my daughter wanted to go. I was expecting a lot of old fashioned quilts, probably not made from scraps like my grandmother’s, but hardly anything that would take more than a few minutes to go through the entire museum. I was SO wrong! The quilts that I saw were genuine works of art. There was an exhibition from a woman who’d spent several years in Africa and hers were all about daily life there. At first glance you could be excused for thinking that these were lovely painting, not quilts. There was also a wooden quilt, that if it weren’t for a sample that you could touch, you would never believe was made from wood. We stayed for over a hour until the museum closed. Every selection showed a level of artistry and skill that was mind-boggling. The beauty of the exhibits was enthralling and well worth the expense. I highly recommend making time for this hidden gem of a museum!

Not a museum in the way I think of it, only a quilt exhibit. Pretty quilts but all fairly new, expected more history and old quilts. If you like to look at a few fancy quilts this is for you but if you are interested in seeing old quilts and 'how to' quilting this is not the place.

This was a impulse stop on the way to St Louis from TN, and it did NOT disappoint! Myself, a crafter, and my best friend, a lover of fashion history, both thoroughly enjoyed the HERstory exhibit they had when we visited. It was a thoughtful display of different stories, backgrounds, techniques, and interpretations. The main exhibit is also beautiful, which a rotating selection of quilts. I was amazed at how close you are allowed to get (but don't touch!) to really see the hand stitching and layering techniques used. A great little 1-2 hour stop!
