During our week in NY, we were lucky enough to meet Mike for a guided tour of the Upper West Side. It has been just amazing. Mike is the best guide ever: he’s so interesting and prepared, he told us stories and curiosities that you won’t find any touristic book. He’s incredibly good at arousing interest. He knows the most amazing places to eat and we enjoyed all of them. Without him, we would have never known the history behind a neighborhood or an even behind a single building. Highly recommended ⭐️

I thought I knew New York, but on my last visit, my daughter suggested a tour with NYC Explained. I quickly learned….that I had so much to learn. With an infectious sense of humor and an encyclopedic knowledge of the city, Mike will remind you of your favorite college professor. What comes through more than anything is his passion for New York—its many cultures and neighborhoods. Having lived in the city for over 30 years, he speaks from firsthand knowledge rather than a script. Mike will show you hidden gems like the speakeasy I had walked by dozens of times before without noticing, or the celestial mural on Grand Central’s ceiling that even my daughter, a former college student in NYC, had somehow missed. You’ll walk away with a deeper understanding and appreciation for what makes the city so unique. I highly recommend his tour!

Our tour with Mike was just the best. From the very first contact he made us feel welcome and even though we had never met before it was like meeting an old friend. But a friend that knows New York by heart. It was a great experience. For a whole day we didn't have to worry about anything. He organized everything, be it the transport, the food or the tour itself. And he did so according to our interests and schedule. Mike is a very attentive host, a proud New Yorker and a great guy. In just one day I learnt more about New York then I've thought I'd ever know. Thanks to Mike we got to know so many fascinating sides of the big apple tourist rarely experience. He was able to tell us so many interesting stories about the city and whatever question we asked he always seemed to know an answer. He was to tell everything so vividly and passionate that I could have listened a lot longer without ever getting bored. The day with Mike was an unforgettable experience and made our stay in New York City even more special and amazing. Don't miss out on this amazing experience!
