A three hour, whirlwind ride on the Lynn Canal from Skagway Harbor towards Haines, Alaska and back to Skagway provides excitement (30 MPH ride and donut stops), education (the naturalist discussed highlights at each stop), and the joy and entertainment of seeing the Alaskan wild. The boat is a semirigid, 26 ft inflatable that accommodates 26 guests plus staff, which includes the captain and a naturalist. Guests are provided with ocean survival suits so if the weather is inclement, you are warm and well protected. Large pockets in the survival suits will safely house cameras between stops.
Of note, we saw many bald eagles setting in lofty spruce or hemlock trees, an eagles nest, many waterfalls cascading down the mountain, a couple of sunning seals, and the beautiful combination of water and mountains that is Alaska. The seas were smooth and sky clear on our trip-an ideal Alaskan travel day.
The boat was comfortable, the staff was knowledgeable and courteous, and the weather was perfect.
