We took the Royal Gorge trip with John as our guide. I have been on other rafting trips where the focus was on the scenery and the wildlife. We got some of that, but John’s focus was on the rapids and the trip down the river. He did a good job training us to work together to get through the rapids, and his enthusiasm for the river and the rapids was contagious. No one fell out and we did not tip over. The water is fairly low this time of year so the rapids are not a challenging as in late spring, but we still found a lot of white water and we all got drenched. Overall it was a great trip with a great guide. If you get John as your guide, ask him about the whale joke.
We picked Lost Paddle Rafting in part because it is a small company, and an incident part way through the trip showed the advantage. At one point we stopped at a rock where we could jump in the river, and one other boat from Lost Paddle Rafting joined us. As we were leaving, about a dozen boats from another company went to the same spot.
