Our trips depart from Mission Bay, which requires only a short 10 minute journey access to the open ocean where whales and dolphins can be seen! The search for whales and other animals begins as soon as you depart the dock and our marine biologists are on the microphone explaining exactly what to expect and what you are seeing from the get go!
Typically our trips are 2.5-3 hours in length, but time can vary based on seasons and locations of sightings.

We saw no fewer than 8 Grey Whales, dozens of Pacific White Sided Dolphins, and a few bottlenose. The crew was informative, entertaining, and kept us energized & on alert. Despite slightly choppy conditions, the large boat was always stable so none of the +/- 36 passengers got sea-sick. We're looking forward to booking another tour in the summer. Don't forget to tip the well-deserving crew.

This is my 3rd time with San Diego Whale Watch and I love them. This WAS THE BEST TRIP YET! We saw a pod of 7 gray whales!!! It was fantastic. Our naturalist told us they had not seen this many whales travelling to Mexico together in this large of a pod. We saw one more whale too. We saw humungous pods of dolphins jumping and frolicing-- 250 or so jumping and cavorting all around us at two different times on the tour. It was a perfect sunny day, I learned a lot. I loved hearing that the gray whale has a heart shaped blow, and the sun was shining rainbows thru the blow sometimes. I highly recommend San Diego Whale Watch!!!!!! Great boat, great people, fun information and great ride experience. Also they took pictures and when we saw them, they were so good we could not resist buying them!! We took our own too, but these were great!!!

Be advised as stated on website they can not predict wildlife and you may find as on my trip you may have just 2.5 hour tour of coastline , no dolphins and no whales other than far away spotting of a tail and 2 water spews from blow holes. They do try and do offer rain check tickets but little consolation for my very short visit to San Diego.
