As we drive along the parkway, you'll notice spots on the road where you can pull your vehicle to the side. These overlooks are designed to spotlight the mountains' most scenic vistas. There are over 200 of them along the whole Blue Ridge Parkway! Each one features a large wooden sign that lists the name of the mountain or ridge you're looking at, and your current elevation. It's nice to give a little personal touch to the otherwise anonymous and similar-looking mountains that you drive through. Cherokee Rose

From the Trail of Tears emerged the legend of the Cherokee Rose. The flower, in full bloom, features a cluster of snow-white petals surrounding a yellow center. In the story, each petal represents a band of the Cherokee nation, and in the center lies the gold for which their nation was torn apart. In order to access that gold, the white settlers had torn off all the petals.

Worth every penny. It was like having a tour guide in the car explaining everything I was driving by, with historical details and local music as well. There were suggestions on where to stop, explanations on where to park for suggested hikes, etc. Made the drive a million times better.

We downloaded and read the instructions for the Blue Ridge Parkway Self-Guided Driving Audio Tour. Drove to our starting point at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. Started the application on phone and wallah! It worked flawlessly! Drove toward Asheville, NC. We viewed lots and lots of green landscape. Stopped at many scenic overlooks. App continued to work flawlessly off the internal gps of iPhone! The trip was very long and after about 3+ hours we exited and found interstate on our way back to basecamp at Gatlinburg, TN. I would recommend same trip and likely others; however, how much green can you stand to look at! All of the hills are covered in very dense trees. I think your day campers, motorcycle and hiker groups would enjoy the most! Check your forest rules! Have fun! We did!
