Experience the Sonoma wine region in a unique way – on a San Francisco-style trolley, for an open-air ride through rustic, sun-kissed Sonoma Valley. Stop at 3 different wineries to sip and swirl fine Northern California varietals. This open-air trolley will let you experience the picturesque vineyards like no other tour. On this tour, your friendly and knowledgeable guide will take you to three wineries for tastings. You will visit Sonoma's top historic landmarks and enjoy lunch during one of the scenic stops. The tour starts at 10:00 and and ends around 4:30.

Must be 21 years or older to take this tour.

Sonoma Valley

Your day in California wine country starts as you hop aboard the Sonoma Wine Trolley, modeled after the famous historical cable cars of San Francisco. Enjoy the breeze as your knowledgeable tour guide whisks you off to four outstanding Sonoma-area wineries, known for both their wines and their hospitality. Each wine tasting takes place at the winery and a representatives at each winery will explain the different varietals you’ll sample and the background of the wineries (wine tasting fees are not included and you can expect fees of $30 to $40). There will be wonderful photo opportunities on this tour and your friendly guide will be happy to take a photo or two of your group so you can document your memorable day in wine country.

Wifey and I met booked the trolley for an anniversary soirée. Note: wine tastings fees are not included in the price you pay the trolley and must be paid separately. Our day cost $65 per person in tastings total over 4 wineries. We met the trolley just to the right of city hall. There’s free all day parking behind the mission / Cheese Store. Most metered parking is only for 3 hours and we were out on the trolley for 7 or so hours. Yes you read the right. It was 100 degrees out, we’ll discuss that later. Our driver, Leif, was really knowledgeable and friendly. We made 4 total stops. Our first stop was Ravenswood, we took a stroll in the vineyards and they explained the process all while drinking. $20 per person here. Second stop was Buena Vista winery which was unbelievable-more so for the history and old school vibe here. $20 per person here too. They take you through old tunnels dug out into the rock. You can’t get in to these rooms without an organized tour, these rooms are a cross between The Pirates of The Caribbean ride at Disneyland and some voodoo lounges of New Orleans. Best winery of the day! Here we had a really nice lunch, we ordered vegetarian and they totally hooked us up, enough for seconds. Desserts were decadent. So, it was 100 degrees inside and after lunch everyone on the trolley was out of energy, and the last two stops were mediocre. Third stop was Valley of the Moon, $15 per person here. 4th stop was....Mayo family winery (I think?) honestly I don’t know. At this point everyone was kinda done. Between the heat, and the long day- oh yeah, and the wine, the 4th stop was probably one too many. I’d stick with 3 stops and 5 hours. Once you go over, well, it became a little too long. Still have them 5 stars because the service was awesome, cold waters kept coming, knowledgeable staff and great food. Book this tour! But remember about $65 I’m tasting fees per person and about $10 tip per person. So for a couple you’re at $150 in addition to your booking price.

Thank you for the wonderful review. Maybe the heat and maybe the tasting pours - but usually 3 stops are not enough and 5 is way to many. Glad you enjoyed.

My friends and I rode the Sonoma wine trolley and had a great time. Our driver Lief was excellent and provided us with a wonderful lunch too. We visited 4 wineries for tastings and at each one was greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff. The wine was great and the day flew by. We made several new friends on the trolley too. We highly recommend this!!

The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley was fun; the trolley is cute and the driver, Paul, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took us on an extra little mini tour of the Sonoma square because Sonoma was celebrating their Bear Flag Celebration and we had a few extra minutes. It was a nice touch. They take you to different wineries day to day, and our trip went to Ravenswood, Buena Vista, Valley of the Moon, and Mayo. All were great, and Paul's driving was excellent--Mayo had a special event going on and the parking lot was packed. Paul got that trolley in, turned around, and out with skill. The lunch they served was very tasty, with several panini options, fruit, potato & pasta salads, and a couple of desserts. We didn't have any dietary restrictions, so I can't say whether they accommodate, it's worth asking. Paul dropped everyone off where they were picked up, and overall it was a great day. Just to reiterate what they say on their site: the trolley ride does not include tasting or tour fees, or really any wine. Those things you purchase separately at the wineries. Despite several places where this is noted on the trolley's site, some people were still confused. If you want to do a tour of the wineries around Sonoma, there are several options, but the trolley just has an extra bit of charm.
