Learn to surf on this 2-hour group lesson on Oahu. Join a group of students and discover how to ride the waves like some of the Island's most famous celebrities with the help of a certified, professional instructor. We have small student to instructor ratio of 1 instructor for every 3-4 students. Waikiki Surf Lesson starts a 10 minute safety slide show inside our surf shop, followed by heading to the beach and practicing on the sand for another 10 minutes. In our 20 year experience, we know that surfing is muscle memory, so when first timers master their surf stance then they tend to get up on their very first wave.

It was my last day in Hawaii and I finally got up the nerve to try surfing. I has heard some good things about the Hans Hedemann Surf School in Waikiki and thought I'd give it a try. With a good push into my first wave, I caught it and was standing up in no time What an incredible experience! I can't believe I waited so long to give surfing a try!! All of the instructors that were out there that afternoon made it one of the most rewarding lessons I have ever taken. Seth's description of the history of surfing created a connection to the environment that made it more of an experience than a lesson. It was professional, fun and the process of learning was broken down into easy to understand steps. Although I can't put it into words, it was a life changing afternoon. Many thanks to everyone at Hans Hedemann Surf School! Keep up the good work and I look forward to more surf lessons with you in the future!!

I have to admit I was very nervous for this activity. You are surfing on top of coral reef so if you fall you can get badly injured. The waves on my day were 4-6 feet and mindswell have been 20 feet. Usually they are 1-2 feet from what I was told. I paid for a private lesson and was so glad I had. Everyone goes through a 20 minute orientation and then you must show what you learned to the group ( a little scary). Then you are off with your board, footies and life vest. Once you see how close you are to the reef, it scared the heck out of me. In certain areas the coral is inches from under the water so if you fall, well you get it. I was so excited that I caught a few big waves then called it quits. I scrapped my leg pretty bad on the coral on a fall and said I would rather walk out of the water than be carried out. Everyone at the school felt so bad that I was so nervous and offered a free 1 hour lesson for the next time I am in town. A VERY nice gesture. Jade was my private instructor and he was so cool with everything! Ask for him and he will take care of you. The only negative for me was the coral, everything else was invigorating!

To those who have written bad reviews here, I used to surf when I was younger 20 years ago. Well, since then I have added weight, a marriage, a family, two kids, and many stressful jobs that have taken their toll on my life. When I returned to Waikiki Beach this year I decided it was time for me to return to surfing but I was not sure how I was going to make that happen. Then I found the Hans Hedemann Surf School crew down on the beach coming in after a session and they directed me to their shop. Never once was anyone rude to me at all and they helped me immediately to reserve time the following morning. The cost was fair too. I was concerned that with my weight I was not going to be able to do this but they were able to provide me with the correct 12' Laird Soft Top board that turned out to be really fun to ride. So the next day my daughter (12 year old, previous surfing experience) and I came to take the course and the instructor took us out in a group of four. He gave us good instruction, taught us what to do, what not to do, and helped us correct what was wrong while we were doing it. What a blast! Well I found out my knees were not so great but I was still able to get a lot of 100 yard rides knee boarding with the occasional attempt to stand up. And best of all, my daughter was able to get some really great rides as well and had an awesome time. This experience, and the others that followed, changed my life permanently and now I plan on buying a board and picking up this fantastic sport again. Yes, there is coral reef out there, it's the Hawaiian Islands people, there is reef everywhere! Surfing with these guys was hard at first but I stuck to it and it changed me on the inside. So if any of you readers out there feel discouraged by negative reviews here, don't be, surfing is a 1500 year old sport tradition that takes some practice so be patient with the crew. Remember, let instructors guide you and they will teach you how to surf sooner than you think. It was a fantastic experience that I will never forget and still remains with me now.
