Tampa History Cruise
Looking for something to do we took the Tampa History cruise. The cruise leaves from a dock (stop number 2 of the hop-on/hop-off water taxi) on the backside of the History Center. The boat is more like a canoe with large sides and a motor. The front has a awning covering an area that seats about 5 people. (There was some junk plastic skeleton on the seat where someone else could have sat under the awning. The rest of the people in the front were out in the sun. The “Captain” offered people suntan lotion. Those people seated in the front were either facing left or right. So if the captain said “To the right.blah blah blah...” those people facing the left could not see what he was pointing out. They could not stand up or they would block the captains and everyone’s view. Because the “bridge” was in the center of the “canoe” there was no way to walk to the back of the boat.
It was a good idea that I found a men’s room before getting on the boat. There is NO restroom facilities on the canoe. They did serve water and soft drinks but since there was no restroom that could present a serious problem.
I absolutely would NOT recommend this sightseeing cruise to anyone. A better option is the hop-on/hop-off water taxi that leave from the same dock.
The cruise is advertised as approximately 90 minutes but was actually more like 70 minutes. When we got on the boat we asked those departing how they liked the cruise - they made a face. Now I known why.
Our boat tour was great! As others have said, Captain Larry was humorous and well-informed. The weather also cooperated. A great way to get a feel for Tampa if you are a tourist
