My husband and I wanted to hike at least part of the Narrows, and given past tragedies there, we felt it best to use a guide. Zion Adventure Company, conveniently located a half a mile outside the main entrance to Zion, and right next to Flanigan's Hotel, was great. Their neoprene socks and boots, along with the sturdy wood hiking poles (trekking poles won't do for this hike) were just the right gear for the trip. Our guide Wil was knowledgeable and friendly, pointing out interesting flora and facts about the park and its history. Wil also helped us navigate a couple of tricky spots in the river, which was great, as we had met several people in the previous days who were limping and banged up from their experience in The Narrows (which really shouldn't happen if you know what you're doing, have the right gear, and the water isn't too high). We got an early start (around 7:30) which was great, because this is a popular activity and it got busy on our return. We only hiked about 2 miles up the canyon (all that is permitted by the NPS if you're with a guide), which was a little disappointing, but what we saw was beautiful and it was a really fun experience. Thanks Wil and Zion Adventure Co!
