I wanted to try ziplining while in Costa Rica, but having never done it before was a little nervous. I'm female, and was traveling solo, and stayed at Cloud Forest Lodge in Monteverde. After talking with the staff there I decided to go on the Original Canopy Tour which is based on the grounds of the lodge. Everyone spoke of the fun, the safety and the fact that someone with little athletic ability (me) could still experience the fun. So I set out at 7:30 on a Saturday morning with guides Blanco and Poncho for a 20 minute hike through the woods up the hill to the starting point, all the while wondering what I had gotten myself into (and since the 7:30 run on a Saturday is not the most popular, I was the only one on this tour). But the guides were very calming and reassuring, very patient and friendly, and very serious about the safety aspects, so that by the time we arrived at the Tarzan swing it didn't seem all that crazy that I was going to do this. Very gently they got me ready, and I loved the swing. Next, they again patiently prepared me for the first of 15 platforms so that when I finally did ride it was wonderful! I loved each of the following rides through and above the trees, and they snapped a number of photos for proof (including a great video of the longest cable ride towards the end). There are quite a few options for canopy tours in Costa Rica, and I did not try any of the others, so can't compare this to them. But I would very much recommend this one based on my experiences. It can be arranged through their website or through this or other local hotels.
