My husband, two sons and I thoroughly enjoyed our zip line experience with Original Canopy tours in Monteverde. I am terrified of heights, but was determined that I would experience this in Costa Rica. We were picked up at our hotel and quickly checked into a group of nine fellow zip liners. After a walk through the forest, we reached the Tarzan Swing. This is an optional part of the tour. After climbing to the top of a tower, you jump from a platform and swing high into the tree canopy. I chose to opt out, the men in my family all gave it a go. The first set of three zip lines begins nearly on the ground as you pass over a canyon and end in the other side high in a tree. As you wait for everyone to complete the run, you are tethered to a tree and standing on a small platform. It does move with the tree movement in the wind, so do not be surprised. At the end of the third run you are back on the ground. I would be lying if I didn’t say it was great to feel the solid ground! The last five runs took us high over canyons from tree to tree. There was an option rappelling stop at one tree to go to the bottom and then climb back up a ficus tree. The last two runs included a half mile and a quarter mile run in succession. The views were amazing. I did not look down, but my family says we were crazy high. Our guides were friendly and joked around. They did seem to be in a hurry as we neared the last few runs. This was a once in a lifetime experience for me, but I am glad I overcame my fears and did this. My oldest son had completed a zip line tour at another establishment in Monteverde a few years prior. It had longer and higher zip lines, but not the views and not as in the canopy experiences as this one, so he was also happy with my choice. We also have some good photos and videos that our guides took on my camera. For people who know me- I needed proof I did this. 10/10 recommend!
