How lucky was I to be the only participant on a 2.5 hour guided tour with my very knowledgeable and personable tour guide, Joe. As luck would have it, I was the only person booked on the 1 pm tour. Joe gave an extremely interesting and personal tour of this fascinating land. Joe is Navajo, and he was the perfect guide, sharing many stories about the Navajo people, as well as going into great detail on the land, the history and the traditions. Joe even knew how to capture the most interesting photos. A number of times he would ask for my phone and then take the perfect photo. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire tour. My only negative would be the open air safari vehicles that are used on many of the tours here at Monument Valley. It seems to be a bad combination to have open air vehicles with a dirt road. Every time a vehicle would pass, a cloud of dust would rise and envelop the vehicle. I saw a number of people with dust masks on in other vehicles, or bandanas over their mouth and nose. Despite the dusty open air vehicle, this was still a 5 star + review thanks to Joe, the perfect tour guide for Monument Valley.

Just returned from a tour of Monument Valley with Dineh Bekeyah Tour with Derick Holiday as our driver/guide. So very interesting to see and hear how the many monuments were named. The advantage of using a tour company is that you will observe and hear about the natural rock formations characteristics. While on your own, it would not to know of the mythology associated with the formations.
