I found the reviews blogs hard to determine if you could take a car or just forcing you to take a guided tour. The discussion should be what you miss in the guided tour areas. Joe really shined in spots like Big Hogan. His panoramic group shots were really nice. Shots we wouldn't think of. Well worth the time.

There are many, many tour companies for Monument Valley and while they tend towards the pricey, you need their cars to make the trek. The roads are not good for a regular passenger vehicle. The quality of the tour depends on the guide and ours (Joseph) was entertaining and kept providing new information throughout the two and a half hours. He gave us a song at one of the arches (great echo). The restricted areas are worth the tour. They provided (cold) water for those of us who didn't bring any and our guide was very helpful to one of our group who was less mobile. Important to remember that one is visiting their home. BTW, Dineh is the indigenous name for Navajo - it's not a personal name.

We did the 2.5 hr tour with 11 people ranging from age 2+. Service from the time of booking to the end was pleasant and professional! Loved our guide, Joe! He was so full of information and helped take some amazing photos for us! He seemed genuiniely happy to do this work and give great tours! We appreciated him! Thanks so much Joe! So fun and worth it. Booked the 2.5 hr.. then thought to change it to 1.5 because it was hot, but just kept it as is and so happy we kept the 2.5 hr. Went by really fast ans saw some amazing sites regular cars couldn’t make it to.
