I loved seeing the whole valley. The road is difficult because it isn't paved. Our Navajo guide, Joseph, was kind and told us the whole story of the area. It was so interesting to hear about the Navajo code talkers from WWII. I especially enjoyed the area with arches and holes in the formations where the petroglyphs were. Even those with an SUV who can navigate the roads are missing out if they do not take the tour.

Such a great trip ! John our guide was really knowledgeable and friendly and we saw some really amazing sights that are not accessible by driving yourself. We learnt lots of information about the Navajo. Highly recommend!

Harry was a terrific guide -- knowledgeable and fun. I especially appreciated his knowledge of photography and helped me with my camera settings and vantage points. We rode in a large open air truck which gave us a great view of the monuments. However, the trail is very uneven and the ride was hard. Then we hit a sandy patch and got stuck. Basically, the tires were over-inflated for the terrain. We needed to be towed out but the tour operator does not provide a radio or satellite phone so he had to rely on one of the other tour people to tell Charlene we needed a tow when they arrived back at the tour base. Fortunately we had good shelter in a deep sandstone cave. Harry got out his flute and played beautiful music while we waited and helped me take some pictures. Finally one of the passing tour guides gave us a tow out just before the rescue truck arrived. I imagine we missed some sights because of the delay.
