Firstly - I printed off an e-ticket thinking I could just get on a bus at any point in the city the day I arrived. But no - when you print off the ticket it tells you you must then swap this for another 'real' ticket at their only kiosk in Columbus Avenue. This is quite a walk from the downtown and then you have to queue with all the other people wanting to buy tickets in their grotty tatty and untidy little store - not even a fast queue for those who bought ahead then! Over the 2 days I had 4 different hop ons with 4 different guides. Only one gave any historical context to the city tour which is what I had been hoping for (although she did put on an irritating mock-happy voice which sounded like she was addressing a group of idiot school children). Another guide spent the whole time boring us with restaurants to visit around the city and long stories on street entertainers. Another guide was quite entertaining but again gave little history or city insight. The 4th was the driver just over the Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito who was good. But in all I was most underwhelmed. The most annoying part was the trip across the bridge to Sausalito - the bus was a coach. So there you are - taking a trip over one of the world's most iconic bridges caged inside a coach (the other option was to wait 30 minutes for the next bus which we were told would definitely be an open-topped bus). Why even have coaches in their fleet?? So all in all quite a disappointment.

Our decision to use this company to see San Francisco turned out to be a big mistake. Busses which were supposed to arrive at a scheduled time never arrived. We spent an entire day trying to catch a bus and ended up walking. When we approached the company for a refund after day one they made every excuse in the book. Even going so far as to say that we were not being truthful about our experience and frustrations. They are a disgrace and should be avoided.

Some of the complaints about how they do business are valid- there does seem to be a general disregard for meeting the needs of their customers. I know that some of the international travelers we rode with were especially confused about the practices of the tour. That being said, its still a pretty good way to see a lot of the city, and we found all of the guides very enjoyable. It was very helpful to use day one to ride the entire loop, then use day two to let the bus be our transportation to specific areas we saw the day before, rather than trying to drive thru the city ourselves, and find somewhere to park at each place.
