What To Expect

Charleston City Hall

The tour will begin in front of City Hall which is one of the pillars of the "Four Corners of Law" which also includes the Courthouse, the Post Office and St Michaels Church at the intersection of Meeting Street and Broad Street. From here you will explore many notable sites in the French Quarter and the residential area "South of Broad".

Rainbow Row

Learn the history behind the famous Rainbow Row, one of the most photographed sites in Charleston. Rainbow Row is located in the "South of Broad" neighborhood which we will explore and includes many historically significant homes including the antebellum mansions located along the famous "Battery". ***Please note that stops along the tour may vary.***

Battery & White Point Gardens

Explore the residential area "South of Broad" including the Battery with views over the water to Fort Sumter.

We booked a private tour for a group of 8. Walks of Charleston was great about letting us tailor the tour as a combination of their historic tour and their hidden alleyways tour. Our guide, Kay, was fantastic. She brought the perfect combination of knowledge, friendly personality and enthusiasm/energy to the tour. You can tell she really loves her town and the people in it! She asked about the group and made sure to cover off on any specific interests and questions. We could not have asked for a better host to show us the town. Would highly recommend the tour for anytime during your stay, but particularly early in the trip to help get your bearings and scope out places you want to explore further.

Enjoyed seeing the architecture and why certain buildings had certain features. Captain John was a great knowledgeable guide but I would have like to hear about the negatives of the southern history as well which were not mentioned at all.
