Water is not provided and there are very few places to purchase water along the tour, so please bring a water bottle especially during the summer months
Please use the restroom prior to the tour as there are no public restrooms along the tour route

What To Expect

Charleston City Hall

The tour will begin in front of City Hall which is one of the pillars of the "Four Corners of Law" which also includes the Courthouse, the Post Office and St Michaels Church at the intersection of Meeting Street and Broad Street. From here you will explore many notable sites in the French Quarter and the residential area "South of Broad".

Rainbow Row

Learn the history behind the famous Rainbow Row, one of the most photographed sites in Charleston. Rainbow Row is located in the "South of Broad" neighborhood which we will explore and includes many historically significant homes including the antebellum mansions located along the famous "Battery". ***Please note that stops along the tour may vary.***

Battery & White Point Gardens

Explore the residential area "South of Broad" including the Battery with views over the water to Fort Sumter.

I came to Charleston for a work trip and had a full day to explore. This walking tour was so wonderful that I almost booked another one later in the day. Our guide, Dennis, was knowledgeable, charismatic, and most importantly, safe. I am coming back in July and will definitely be booking with Walks of Charleston again!

Mark Jones is engaging, well-organized in conversation, and extremely knowledgeable - the pace of the tour was exactly right (not too slow, well-timed for the things we saw). Our tour was on a Sunday, I really enjoyed walking thought the historic home district. I’m sure Mark could have told us many more interesting things about Charleston history. Definitely would do this again, with friends.

We went on the tour with Mark Jones. He was very knowledgeable, and we found the Walking tour very informative and enjoyable. We got a very good perspective of the historical significance and the nuance of the city. We were very pleased to have selected this tour and our Tour Guide Mark Jones could not have been any better, he’s also a writer and has published articles on the history of Charleston. I will be looking up these books/articles.
